Semester 2'2012 - Week 16 [Final Report Making]

Alhamdulillah after a great week last week, I was able to impressed my assessors for finding them a little interest toward my projects.

With the assessments done, it is finally the last hurdle for my final year project work. Which is the final report. The report must be in correct formats as attached in the links:-

Semester 2'2012 - Week 15 [Industrial Day]

This is the day where all students of all UniKL -BMI presenting their final year projects for final assessment and grading. I was assessed by Associates Professor Zulkifli Abdul Kadir Bakti (ZABK) and Madam Norhaslinawati BTE Ramli. May Allah give me strength and wisdom to pass these trials.

With tomorrow is the big day, I would like to say Alhamdulillah and thanks to Allah the most kindness and merciful which have guide my final year project. I also would like to extend my highly appreciation to my advisor Sir Mohammad Azlan Abu (MAZA) for enlighten and guiding me to finish my final year project from final year project 1 to final year project 2. All knowledge sir shared has undoubtedly enriched my understanding of these project and my presentation skills.

I also would like to thank to all members under Sir Azlan guidance for support and assisting me with all the information and knowledge shared I was able to finish this project within schedule. Not forgotten, my parents and family members for supporting me with limitless moral support from the beginning of final year project 1 until the end of final year project 2.

Semester 2'2012 - Week 14 [Presentation Preparation]

During this week all I focus is to improve my presentation skill as I was trained by Sir Mohd Azlan Abu on how to present my paper well. One of the experience my adviser teach me are by presenting in the Asia Pacific Conference for Engineering and Technopreneurs,  ACET convention in Technology Park in Bukit Jalil during 23rd -24th of October. With the experience I trained for the Industrial Day in 8th of November next week. Together with collecting more reference for adding info for my project elaboration.

Semester 2'2012 - Week 12 -13 [Poster Design]

This two weeks (15 October - 26 October) is where I will preparing and presenting my poster in front of my supervisor Sir Mohd Azlan Abu (MAZA) for preparation for Industrial Day presentation where I will be assessed. Below are the poster which will be presented in the Industrial day after receiving permission from Azlan for the poster is finally suffice for my assessments.


But with some lacking with the output control table, Sir Azlan request me to redesign the system for lighting system together with new poster table.

During the week 13 I have done the redesign as two figures below and the third is the final posters.

The figure above are new design of block diagram together with annotation for reader guides to understand the system design parameters.

Semester 2'2012 - Week 11 [Compiling Design]


After week s of designing work and troubleshooting problem regarding the system design, I finally reach the final phase of combining all system I have design before into one system. The results are shown below.



After complete the design compiling, I finished the re touch on graphical user interface for my system as shown below.


Thus with the system is complete, week 12 will be my preparation for poster finalizing before going for presentation in Industrial Week in week 14.

Semester 2'2012 - Week 10 [Light System]

After successful in designing the Window system from last week, I proceed with designing the lighting control system. From figure below are the design of Labview block diagram the lights of a building.


The system above functions as follows:-

The purpose of this system is to control the lighting of the building. It controls by receiving input from IDS or indoor sensor, ODS or Outdoor sensor and DN sensor or day night sensor. All of the input sensors are to measure the illumination of light inside a build. The process of the system is whenever the inside of the building illumination is low, the light will be brighter. As the illumination getting brighter inside the building, the lights will become dimmer. Depends on situation of day or night also affect the system by during day, light maximum brightness only can reach medium range. But during night the minimum brightness will be the medium range.

Semester 2'2012 - Week 9 [Window System]

In new week after holiday, I have continue to expand my design for the self adapt system by combining the previous design for temperature control, with second part of my system which is Window system.




         

              The purpose of window in building services is to provide a quality air quality inside a building by letting natural air to flow from outside into internal parts of the building. Providing good air quality can be achieve by letting go excessive air pressure and humidity of the building outside, and much more power efficient to use the natural wind than using fan out system. Wind sensor plays important role where it detect storm, so the air flow inside the building in comfortable. The rain sensor is to detect rain so the window can be shut during rain to avoid from rain entering the building. From figure above we can see the block for window control which is for ventilation purpose. For this system, the fuzzy control will be receiving inputs from switch temperature, real temperature sensor, wind sensor or anemometer, and rain sensor.

Semester 2'2012 - Break & Week 8 [Holiday & Exam]

From 15th to 23rd of September are considered as Mid Semester Holiday week. Thus week 8 will continue at 24th September onward.

Regardless week 8 are the week for Mid-Term examination. So this 2 weeks will be no progress as I have to prepare for Mid Semester Exam.

Semester 2'2012 - Week 7 [Discussion]

This week I have meet my Adviser Sir Mohd Azlan Bin Abu (MAZA) with me fellow colleagues for final year project which under the supervision of sir MAZA to brain storming for ideas of our projects.

From my design in week 3, my colleagues recommend to use a split signal block to be used on MIMO fuzzy blocks as shown below.


There are no error in design as in week 3, but the result are not as I expected. only Heater meter are showing output results but not Fan. Fan meter only static at Zero the whole process, so I assume its a failure and decide to use my current design shown in week 6.

As for improvement I have gain an idea to put light control and automatic window system to the project. Will be shared on week  8 discussion.

Semester 2'2012 - Week 6 [New Design]

This week I have finished my basic designer of the project which work well and producing expected results.

The design are as shown below.


From diagram I have made changes from the week 3 problem. Which I made a series of fuzzy logic files but using parallel input for all system. Which mean same input but gives to different decision on each system of fuzzy logic program system.

The output also different for Fan and Heater, thus problem from week 3 are solved.

My target for week 7 are to put more input and output on the system so it can be more versatile to adept to any environment as stated in its title.

Semester 2'2012- Week 5 [Poster]

Due to some circumstances my Adviser Sir Mohd Azlan Bin Abu would like use made a poster for our presentation in week 14 first draft, which he will comment and critics any lack in the poster info and design.

As for the week I only done the poster as shown below and was accepted by my adviser. Regardless the results part a remain void as my simulation are still not finished.


In the poster are my new block diagram and flow charts which might be different from my entry from week 1 to week 15 of semester S1'2012.

Semester 2'2012 - Week 4 [Hari Raya Break]

Due to Hari Raya Eid Mubarak celebration the whole week are holiday and project progress are on hold.


As for problem from previous week my adviser have given a tips to solve the problem.

For the week I will made two fuzzy system program instead on just one. It will be uploaded after been verified by my adviser Sir Mohd Azlan Bin Abu (MAZA).

Semester 2'2012 - Week 3 [Progress: Problem 1]

For this week I have fully finished my fuzzy system data which will be use for my Labview simulation block diagram. Thus I have continue to design the block diagram and front panel of Labview.

Labview front panel for prototype 1 is as below:-


   The heater and fan meter show the amount of power,% of the motor used. While arrow of slide properties are to be set by user to see whether the simulation can produce output as expected or not. While Numeric indicator are to shown exact value that the temperature are reading.

But problem occurs at block diagram level which shown as below:-


From picture above we can see MIMO or Multiple Input Multiple Output for fuzzy system design block cannot connect to two output at the same line. The results are failure of output production.

While in use of MISO or Multiple Input Single Output option, only the heater meter are producing output. But Fan consist of no output reading of its own, only the same as Heater reading as shown below.


Thus I need to consult with my adviser regarding the problem.

Semester 2'2012 - Week 2 [Finalized New Title]

Task:-


  1. During the first meeting with my advisor Sir Mohd Azlan Bin Abu (MAZA), we have finalized the new FYP title for my project.
  2. The form of title change are to be submitted before the end of this week. (10th August 2012)

  4. Simulation for project to be started.

Results / Summary:-



  1. My latest project title are : Development of Environment Self Adapting System using LabView for buildings.
  2. The form have been submitted at 1315 hour to my adviser office.
  3. All announcement regarding final year project student can be access without lag anymore.
  4. My simulation are stating with Fuzzy Logic System Designer via LabView. Result of this week is shown below.

Semester 2'2012 - Week 1 [Holiday Progress]

This entry will show progress of the project during semester break from 4th May 2012 to 27th July 2012.

Task:-


  1. Research of new title for project due to some difficulties of previous project hardware difficulties.
  2. Research for comparison for new literature review for the new title.
Results:-

Task 1
  1. From research for new title, I have came up with few titles to be considered with basics of the project are still based on LabView software use. The title will be shortlist and be decided by my adviser Sir Mohd Azlan Bin Abu (MAZA) to be finalise.
  2. The proposed title are:-
    • Development of Self Adapting Environment Building.
    • Development of Climate Control Room.
    • Development of  Weather Control Building. 
  3. The Project concept is to develop a system to help a person to able to control a building environment. Such as the temperature, light uses, and many more.

Task 2

  1. For comparing and references, I have found a few topics regarding a control of a room. But It was nowhere similar with my topics. The topics and the scope are shown below together with any helpful data it has.
    • Smart Monitoring House
      • From:- UniKL BMI, Resource Centre
      • Scope:- Monitoring any rat activity in the house.
      • Data gain:- An useful diagram for LabView design.
    • Smart Gardening System
      • From:-  UniKL BMI, Resource Centre
      • Scope:- A system for water to be sprinkle on a plant on time set by user.
      • Data gain:- Extra information to be added to usefulness of my project target and Temperature reading data.
  2. From IEEE website I have found almost similar project but unable to be refer as it needs to be paid a huge sum of money that I cannot afford.
Summary:-

The new project title is listed and will be finalized in my next meeting with Sir Azlan (MAZA). The Registration for new semester S2'2012 are underway during this week.

Report Submission

Today at 1200 hour I have submitted all the require paperwork for the semester for Sir Mohd Azlan B Abu to check my progress for the semester. I have submitted full formatted report for:-

Project Progress:-

On week 16 and 17 there will be final examination for me and all project progress will be rest until 24th May 2012 during the beginning for short semester session. That session I will learn fuzzy logic technique to be use in my project.

This week progress for project is slow as I focus on other subjects assignments to be submitted. And Sir Azlan has set a due date for submitting the semester project progress report, proposal and the draft of three chapter for final report by 4th May 2012, a week before final examination.

Week 13 - 19th April 2012

Final Year Project Semester 1 Evaluation Day Post-Moterm


This week my Advisor share with us all the comments by the assessors during assessment session last week. For the problem regarding my report on Sir Basri comments, sir Azlan ask me to discuss with sir Basri more detail and report back to him.


Project Report Progress:-


I have finished the draft for chapter two - Literature Review.


Project Progress:-


I was informed by Sir Muhyi another lecturer from Electronic Section that artificial intelligent technique that I try to use which is Neural Network is very hard to master and to produce. And he recommend me if I were to continue the project, to use the fuzzy logic technique. Thus I will join Artificial Intelligent subject during the short semester to improve my understanding in fuzzy logic.

Week 12 - 12th April 2012

Final Year Project Semester 1 Evaluation Day.

All student are prepared in Gemilang Hall at 1400 hour, one hour before the designated time for our evaluation for preparation with all diagrams via personal laptop computer.

At exact 1530 Sir Ahmad Basri B Haji Zainal and Madam Julie Roslita Binti Rusli came to assess me. The assessment take about 25 minutes and my project was criticise and comments by both assessors. All critics, comments and recommends are noted.


Critics:-


The project has been critics for its wide range study case and the time need for the project are not enough for me to finishes in the next six month or next semester.


Comments:-


I was given compliment for all information prepared and good presentation communication in English. I have my Advisor to thank for that.


Recommends:-


Sir Ahmad Basri recommends me to change the scope of the project which from weather forecasting to weather control. Details will be inform in semester 1 FYP progress report and need to be discussed with my respected Advisor.


Note: All project work and research rest for the week as I preparing for the presentation day in Thursday.

Week 11 - 3rd April 2012

Proposed Project Presentation to Advisor (Final)

In this week with all the knowledge and tips given by my respective advisor Sir Mohd Azlan B Abu, I have made the presentation with confidence and Sir Azlan is happy with it.

Assessor Announced

In the session Sir Azlan have informed all the students that the assessors who will assess me in the FYP presentation day is Sir Ahmad Basri B Haji Zainal and Madam Julie Roslita Binti Rusli. With pointers and more advises were given by Sir Azlan for me to prepare to impress the assessors.

Project Progress

I have come out with new flow chart for the system that I will use in the project, and was attached into my complete proposal file.

Chapter 1 - Introduction has been completed. Remaining other two chapters to be completed.

Week 10 - 27th March 2012

Proposed Project Presentation to Advisor (2nd Presentation)


This week are the second presentation of my improvise project presentation slides to my respective lecturer Sir Mohd Azlan B Abu. 


The reason for the presentation is for my preparation before Final Year Project Committee Assessors assessing me in week 12 which will determined the marks for the first semester final year project subject. 


Sir Azlan has approve my slides and given tips to improve my presentation skills for the big day ahead. Sir Azlan also demanded to see again all students under his jurisdiction to presented again the slides in week 11. Which he also will reveal our assessors name during the session.


Project Proposal Progress:-


1) The project proposal is finished as draft.
2) Continue in formatting the proposal to be sent for my Advisor in week 13.


Task:-


This week also we have been given tasks and explanations on what other paperwork need for us to submitted by the end of the semester. The paperwork are Final Year Project (Final Report - drafts) which include:-


-Chapter 1 - Introduction    
-Chapter 2 - Literature Review
-Chapter 3 - Methodology


Comments:-


As we finished the presentation slides, all of the information are need to be write in detail for the first three chapter of FYP report.

Week 9 - 20th March 2012

Proposed Project Presentation to Advisor (1st Presentation)

In this week I have shown my proposed project presentation slide to my respective advisor Sir Mohd Azlan B Abu and my advisor seem to be approving the slides to be presented for FYP Assessors in week 12.

With many advises and critics from Sir Azlan and fellow project students under the same advisor I was inform to improvise and altering some slides for the project before presented to FYP assessor.

Point to be improve:-

1) Problem statement.
2) Need to simplify my slides. To many point and less picture.

Point to be added / research :-

1) Expected results.
2) Hardware price.

Progress:-

1) Problem Statement remade and ready to be recheck by advisor in week 10.

2) More picture has been added and my explanation for each slides has been removed and changed to simplified point-form information.

3) Expected results in progress. Need to be comparing with my 2nd reference for more information. The expected result were determined by combining information of the 2nd reference results and online weather information.

4) Hardware is not yet to be confirmed yet as the only alternatives are the old version of Data Acquisition Unit (DAQ) hardware prepared in UniKL laboratory for student use. It may suffice if my project more focus on software design.

 Methodology , Benefits and Contribution, and Objectives has been done and compiled in proposal drafts file.

Week 8 - 13th March 2012

Presentation Delay

This week I were supposed to presenting my slides for the proposed project, but is delayed to next week due to my Advisor tight schedule that force the presentation to week 9 [ 20/3/2012]

Week 7 - 6th March 2012

Presentation Slide Finished


Following the task given in week 5, this week assignment in continuation of week 6 task as in to completing my proposed project slide to be presented to my advisor Sir Mohd. Azlan B. Abu [MAZA]

Task:-

1) Determined the objectives of the project.
2) Research on methodology for the project.
3) Defining the benefits of the project.
4) Research on hardware to be use in the project and the budget.

Progress:-

1) Point 1-3 is completed, and compiled in the presentation slide file and ready to be presented.

2) Hardware has been determine, it was an equipment use as in the 2nd references project to monitor the environment and it can be interface with LabView. The product name is NI WIFI DAQ which using wireless network to established connection with personal computer. The product image is as below:-


The only problem is the price. And I will need to consider other options as I did this project alone and having financial limitation.

Week 6 [28/4] - Mid-Term week assignments

There are no meetings held with my advisor Sir Mohd Azlan B. Abu for this week as we preparing for mid semester examination. But tasks has been given to be done in this week:-

Progress:-

1) In this week I have made research on many projects that might be related to my project to be consider as references in building and designing the software for my weather forecasting projects.

Climate Control and Monitoring with Wireless Sensor Network: A Case Study.

The similarities are the monitoring outside temperature, the system are made to control internal temperature as the outside temperature changes. The reference provide me the extra information about understanding the environment temperature and systems to monitor.

Virtual Barometer

This reference are making the weather forecasting with only using Barometer or pressure sensor. As it determine that in Malaysia, the weather can be easily determined as pressure in the air changes. The most prolific references that I will be refer to in the future.

Week 5 - 21 / 2 / 2012

5th Meeting with FYP Advisor Sir Mohd. Azlan B. Abu.

Agenda:-
  • Presenting full block diagram of the project.

Summary:-
  • The project is stated as cannot use only LabView in order to make this project successful.
  • Sir Azlan has ordered me to use Artificial Intelligent method name Neural Network to work with Labview. 
  • As for week 6 to 7 Sir Azlan has ordered us to made the final FYP presentation slides for Semester 1 final presentation.This is due to Mid-semester phase test and mid-semester holiday, and we are unable to do the meeting as usual. Sir will check it in week 8. 
As starting now I am to join sir Azlan class un-registered as I never taken any AI subject and was unable to add another for this semester. This is for me to learn on how to use the Neural Networks.

Summary:-

  • Final year project title : Weather Forecast using LabView Software (Research)
  • Conference date 8/9/2012 (dateline: 8/4/2012) : Post-Grad Research Conference or Post-Grad Colloquium date 4-5/10/2012 (dateline: 1/5/2012).
